Women's Wave Painter Setsuko Migishi and her husband, Kotaro Migishi
Setsuko Migishi was born in Bisai, Aichi Prefecture (Currently Ichinomiya City). She studied under Saburosuke Okada, and graduated at the head of the class from a women's art school. The same year, she married Kotaro Migishi, who suddenly died at age 31. She decided at age 29 to become an artist even if this meant taking raising her three children at the same time. She was active as a frontrunner in the women's wave of artists during and after World War II, and she moved to France at age 49, and passed away at the age of 94. Her work "SAITA SAITA SAKURA GA SAITA" (Cherry Blossoms in Bloom), which she worked on until just before her death, is a must-see.
