財団の主要四大事業

1. Supporting scientists in their research

We provide research grants primarily for young researchers engaged in research in the information sciences in the universities and public research institutions in Aichi Prefecture. We have an open call for candidates, and the research grants are divided into the General Category and Foreign Researcher Category. We give grants to about 45 researchers a year.
We also contribute to the development of science, technology, and academics by holding social events for researchers so that they have a chance to meet and interact.

2. The "D-Art Biennale"

We provide a space for young artists engaged in creating modern art in Japan, and we hold the "D-Art Biennale" every 2 years. We have an open call for candidates.
This event is for young modern artists from Nagoya. We have an open call for art works, judge them, and put selected ones on display. In this way, we support the creative activities of young artists. The third Biennale is scheduled for 2014.

3. The "Tri-University Student Invitational Exhibition"

This exhibition is for the students of three universities: the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music, Nagoya University of Arts, and Nagoya Zokei University of Art and Design. We receive recommendations from each university for modern, original art works, and display these recommended art works. The award for First place is 1 million yen. The first exhibition will be held in 2013.

4. Operation of the "Hori Art Museum" along the Culture Path

The Foundation runs the Hori Art Museum in Bunka-no-michi (the Culture Path), Higashi-ku, Nagoya. The Museum displays the works from the "Age of Passionate Art" in which Japanese artists went to Paris to study in the early Showa period, learn local painting methods, and create Japanese-style painting (influenced from western-style painting). These artists included local female artist, Setsuko Migishi, as well as Ryuzaburo Umehara. Other works include masterpieces of Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) by Kaii Higashiyama, Yasushi Sugiyama, and others. The museum provides local residents with a chance to see art, actively acquires new art works every year, and works to preserve them.
